Very close to our watchtower town we find other places with great stories and legends to tell and discover as we travel through this land. The roots of Navarre include the feats of Charles the Great, whose army was defeated as it passed through this land and about which the visitor can learn about.
The battle of Roncesvalles was fought here, where the Vascon army defended its land, defeating Roldán, the nephew of Charles the Great, whose epic tale is told at “Chanson de Roland” (The Song of Roland).
From Old Gallipienzo we can begin an epic route through Vía Carlomagno, an initiative certified as a Cultural Itinerary in 2018 and where we will discover towns of great beauty and legends intermixed with history, all just a step away from the Rural Dreams lodge.
